An 83-year-old woman from Colorado has been able to walk again after surgery to correct her spine.
She is pictured here on her way to her first full day of school.
Her mother, who lives in Georgia, was told in May that her daughter was paralyzed after suffering the devastating spinal injury in the late 1980s.
The family had been living in a rural part of Colorado for nearly 50 years, when their daughter suffered the injury.
She was 5 when the accident occurred.
She lost a large portion of her spinal cord, which caused her to walk with a limp.
She suffered a stroke when she was just 10 years old and suffered the paralysis in a car accident in the mid-1990s.
Her spine is now aligned correctly.
Her family, who had lived in rural Georgia for more than 50 years before her illness, was living in Colorado at the time of her diagnosis.
