The woman gave birth to a baby with a spine deformities at a hospital in a small town in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
She gave birth after being taken to a private hospital for treatment.
The baby has a congenital spine deformism, said Dr Sushil Kumar, head of the orthopaedic department at the Chhattisgarh Medical College.
The woman, identified only as T.M., told a local television channel on Wednesday that her husband and her three-year-old daughter were in a car accident and the baby was born with a congenitally defective spine.
The condition can be fixed by surgery.
It is the first case in India of a newborn being born with an abnormal spine.
In the hospital, the baby’s parents took the baby to a paediatric surgeon.
“They found the baby had a congenita spinal deformity.
We had to perform a C-section,” said Dr Kumar, adding that the baby is now doing well.
T.M.’s husband has a history of heart problems and is being treated at a private clinic.
“It’s a good day for him.
He was undergoing cardiac surgery for several months,” said her husband.
“He was having problems with his heart, but it was not a big problem.”
