India will start selling a range of new air-con appliances by the end of next year, and it is aiming to sell 20,000 of them each month, Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Kumar said on Wednesday.
“It is an aggressive target,” Kumar said, as the country is already witnessing a surge in electricity demand.
The country’s power generation capacity is currently the highest in the world at nearly 80,000 megawatts, but Kumar said India is now on track to reach 100,000MW by the middle of the year.
“This is not a goal, it is an aspirational target,” he said, adding that India will sell an average of 20,00 new aircon products a month.
“The next objective is to make sure that all of these products are actually available and we will be able to deliver the full range of aircon,” Kumar added.
India’s energy consumption has also risen in recent years due to increased use of rooftop solar power generation.
The company said it will also sell a range and range of other appliances.
India has been working on a range for the past three years, and has set up a new unit for the domestic market.
It plans to roll out the new products in India’s main cities by the first quarter of 2019.
Kumar said the government is also looking to sell appliances for the elderly.
